Woody Watts

Music – Chicago

My name is Derek Watts, but my nickname is Woody. I\'ve had the nickname as long as I could remember, and to be honest, I barely remember how I got the nickname. I\'m from a small town in Indiana called Lake Station, and I made the move to Chicago in August of 2013. It was definitely a hard decision to make, but I can honestly say that I don\'t regret it. I was always torn between what I wanted to do after high school. The biggest choices were always either community college, or trying to get a job in the local steel mills in Indiana, but getting lost inside the world of music really helped me realize that all I wanted to do was play music. I\'ve been playing instruments since I was in the sixth grade when I started on the alto saxophone, which later turned into me singing in the choir. I also always fiddle-farted around at home on a keyboard my parents got me as an old birthday present, but my real passion for music started when my old band was desperately searching for a bassist and singer. I fit the bill for a little while until life got in the way for everyone. I soon met one of my best friends through a local band, and eventually played bass for them. After that band parted ways, I wanted to see what I could do musically, so I\'ve been improvising jams on my pedal board since then.
