Visual Art – London

My current practise focuses on the use of manual typewriters as tools to create imagery. My work is heavily inspired by the Shetland coastal line, every changing due to the harsh weather conditions. All works are typed using the punctuation marks made from manual typewriters, creating textures to interpret the results of harsh weathering. I was heavily influenced with typography, using words and fonts to create imagery. I didn’t want to be so literal with word choice having the language confused with the image itself, but to use the characters to build up textures. I have a growing collection of typewriters, the majority sourced from the Islands. As a native of Shetland, the connection with the Shetland landscape is heavily embedded within my work creating a strong bond to the foundations of the geology as we see it today.
