Emily Becher

Accessories – Melbourne

Emily Becher graduated from NMIT’s Advanced Diploma in Jewellery Design & Manufacture in 2012 with High Distinction. This follows an academic trail of consistency to perform at a high level winning numerous awards, the most recent recognition received in 2012 from the Gold & Silversmiths Guild of Australia for ‘Best Hand Skills’, and has since been accepted as a Fellow member of the Guild in 2013. Her work has been selected for a range of prestigious exhibitions including Contemporary Australian Silver & Metalwork Award 2013, Graduate Metal \'13 and Contemporary Wearables ’13. After growing up in the country town of Bethanga, Emily has developed a unique relationship with her chosen home of Melbourne. Fascinated by the city’s constant growth and decline and the ever changing nature of the contemporary urban sprawl, she explores her environment, experimenting with concepts of construction and deconstruction in her work. She has an eye for the beauty contained within the intricate and often overlooked details of the urban landscape and it is this element that she celebrates in her work. The techniques used in her jewellery focus strongly on merging modern design with elements of nostalgia through the application of conventional techniques to create timeless pieces that acknowledge the evolution of the metropolis and the inherent beauty in its urban art and scenery. Her work is currently stocked in Redox Jewellery Studio, Swoon, Stone Glint & Bone, Arbor, Fivefold, John McAleer Jeweller and Lord Coconut.
