John “Jahni” Moore who has signed his work Jahni since the spring of 2000 is an African- American born socio-political artist working primarily in acrylic paint and charcoal. He first received public acclaim for his work in Earlyworks Children’s Museum in Huntsville, AL in 1999. The large painting entitled “This Road We’ve Traveled” depicts the plight of Africans from the Motherland through Alabama to the present. Since then his works have traveled around the globe and become a part of numerous collections both public and private from Philadelphia to South America. Jahni studied at Alabama A&M University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and with muralist Joshua Sarantitis. Unlimited in his scope of creative interest he has also made an imprint as a writer and playwright, having several plays in production. His inspirational book entitled The Rabbit Story will debut in 2012. The artist is known for his activism on behalf of the marginalized in society, especially children. He has worked extensively with many children’s organizations. He was a founding board member of Junior’s House Child Advocacy Center in Fayetteville, TN. He has also done work in radio and film. The artist refers to himself as “a creative spirit manifest in the flesh” and that his “craft” is his “weapon of choice” to kick against the machine that stifles dreams and possibilities. Currently he resides in the south with his wife and children and moonlight the dog.
