Much is made of perfection. A handsome, charming, and rich boyfriend. The newest Mercedes. A symmetrical face, flawless skin, and the dress. Our desires seem to center around realizing perfection in one way or another. But what makes something perfect? Shawna asks that of the viewer, and refuses to accept the easy answer. Her characters are shabby, flabby, sunken-eyed, and undeniably lovable. Does that not make them perfect? Shawna Spady is 20 years old, and has been painting for two years. A heavily visual person, her works reflect only her vision. Meaning is left as an exercise for the viewer. Her vision is deeply rooted in a lifelong love of animation. She is self-taught, but is working on plans for an affordable education at a respectable school.
