My name is Alexis Amos, and I am a professional dancer and Pilates instructor. I was introduced to my first dance class at the late age of sixteen years old. I new it was my passion and a gift that I wanted to use in order to inspire others. I am so excited to be presenting a solo project entitled “DANCING FOR A PURPOSE” at the R.A.W Artists showcase in Denver, Colorado, in order to raise money for Haiti. This idea came to me after my dad completed a mission trip to Haiti and brought back photos to show our family. It touched my heart to see the children and families in those images and their way of life. I am hoping to bring awareness to a great organization called Singing Rooster, who contributes to making a difference in Haiti. Help Singing Rooster assist Haitian farmers build a coffee seedling nursery that provides income AND helps reforest a devastated landscape. Their 2018 goal is $4000 for a nursery to plant 32,000 seedlings. Help change the lives of people like Lourdes Similien who has been a coffee bean sorter since 2008. She was born in Terre Longe, a small neighboring town of Thiotte — one of Haiti’s largest coffee sectors. There are 8 people in her family including her husband and 6 children. Her husband’s eyesight has been deteriorating, and she is the only breadwinner in her family. Coffee bean sorting provides only part of her family income, and she must grow / sell vegetables at local markets. The most enjoyable part of her day is talking with other bean sorters as she works. Your ticket purchase will go to aspiring dancers in the Denver area who would like to be exposed to art. I've been teaching Pilates and group fitness in the Denver area for over three years. I also obtained my B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, which has given me a deeper understanding of the human body.
