Visual Art – Vancouver
Oil painting and sculpture are my favourite medias. Many of my pieces have elements that mimic reality, though I enjoy playing around with the contrast between detail and abstraction. The themes behind my work have been guided by a desire to loosen up in my approach and reference life fearlessly. There are so many aspects of our experience that don’t fall into specific categories and I love to acknowledge these unconventional moments.
In the past I felt that every brushstroke, cut, or line I added to a piece would illustrate my ideas about the world permanently, but I don’t believe that now. They capture the moment in which they were created, nothing more. This new idea brought a lot more freedom to my work because I no longer feel the need to solidify every idea in my mind before I reference it in a work. My ideas will change over time, and my artwork is simply part of an on-going conversation.
