Dernell Keon “Aphtanan” Dann was born and raised in Glamorgan, Tobago, Trinidad And Tobago. Aphtanan was inspired by his father who was a very talented and ambitious musician; he had his own band and led several music groups including a family group involving himself and his sisters. Although soca and calypso are the dominant music genre in T&T, the uprising reggae artist fell in love with reggae music. Aphtanan immigrated to Canada in 1998, at the young age of 15 and continued his journey here in Montreal, Quebec with his siblings, mother and Jamaican step-father. It was then Aphtanan grew a deeper passion for Jamaican music and culture. Ever since, Apthanan has been involved with composing and performing reggae music. The artist has had the chance to perform twice at Jamaica day in Montreal with crowds over 5000 people, as well as appearances at the popular Reggae Bar, “House of Reggae”. Highlighting his career the artist had the chance to perform at the Canada’s largest outdoor concert; Montreal International Reggae Festival. The artist hopes to continue his father’s legacy by spreading positive messages through music.
