Born and raised in Germany, Elke has been influenced by color since she was young. Having lived in Spain, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong and New York, she also uses her travels as a source of inspiration. After studying art history in Berlin, in 1985 Elke began her career as a fabric designer in Germany and Spain. Translating her love of color into the making of textiles, she continued to express her passion. Next, Elke moved to Hong Kong where she lived for many years designing clothing under the label \"Anuschka.\" While also in Asia, Elke learned the art of designing, dyeing and weaving kimonos. In Thailand, she was trained in traditional Thai textile design. After coming to New York in 1991, Elke married, had two children and continued her education and career in the arts. Now living in Colorado, Elke uses her background as a designer to create her vibrant paintings. Leaving the fashion world behind, Elke now paints daily and is open to the freedom of using color for color’s sake. Elke’s paintings are in private collections in Europe, North America, and South America.
