Dan Krug

Visual Art – New York - NYC

Dan Krug was born and raised in the Burbs of New Jersey. He set out at an early age to make art that was somewhat unconventional to what he was privy to. Some of his early inspiration came from Jackson Pollock, Gustav Klimt, Paul Cezanne, Egon Schiele, Dali and the punk and indie culture that was still thriving in the East Coast. It wasn\'t until his move to Manhattan that he realized art wasn\'t necessarily just paint on canvas. He found himself stuck in a 9-5 job and for 15 years lost almost every drop of creative juice in his body. Eventually , he decided to leave that situation and focus more on filling his body back with creativity. That meant, hanging out with more creative people, taking design courses and seeing everyday things in a different light. His east village roots influenced his art to the point of using mostly found objects from the area. The monochromatic style allows him to focus attention on high emotion areas of the pieces. He stumbled upon his technique by accident when he was working on printmaking paper and dropped scissors into an ink tray. After stamping them on to the paper, he realized he could convey his thoughts by taking ordinary objects and making them something they are not. He now mainly focuses on Typeface/Image Art Prints and unique and brushless ink fish images. Maybe he just likes to get messy...
