Visual Art – Nashville

My name is John Dixon. I grew up in Carthage, TN, approximately 50 miles east of Nashville, and currently reside in Murfreesboro, TN with my wife, Liz. I have enjoyed art and have enjoyed drawing for as long as I can remember. For years, my intent was to pursue a tattooing career. However, I discovered a passion for understanding and helping others, and subsequently pursued/obtained a career in mental health counseling, which I am currently active in. Fortunately, my passion for art and my passion of understanding/helping coincide perfectly; one serving as a visual representation of the other; both coming from the same place. Creating and sharing my art became much more prominent in the summer of 2016, when my recovery from alcoholism began. Art has been crucial to my recovery; providing me solace and clarity during the chaotic, initial stages and became a fundamental aspect of my self-care. To this day, the choice between “Expressing” or “Suppressing” my inner condition is essential to my well-being. My art is an amalgamation of my personal struggles, my knowledge/understanding of the human condition, and my beliefs regarding the true nature of things. The concepts of truth, growth, duality, resistance, suffering, awareness, surrender, and serenity are all very common. It is my hope that others might recognize something in my art that also resonates within them, and that this commonality might evoke a sense of empathy, connectedness, and compassion; all of which I believe we are in great need of.
