Alexandra Velardes

Visual Art – Boise

Alexandra Velardes was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. She has dealt with a great deal in her life and uses her art to work through those experiences. Her focus is printmaking but, she enjoys black and white film photography as well. She is inspired by early twentieth century memento mori as well as anatomy, both human and animal. Her work tends to deal with ideas surrounding identity and what contributes to its formation. Alex feels that color is an important factor within painting and printmaking. She believes that color is capable of speaking in a way that imagery alone cannot. When not in the studio she spends her time crocheting, and hanging out with her six year old daughter.
