Visual Art – Toronto

illustrator | graphic designer |Surface Designer |Toronto / Marseille Born in France, partly raised in Canada, studied Visual Arts in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence (France). Primary Works: Book cover artwork and layout, children’s book illustrations, graphic concepts and surface designs. I started as a graphic designer over 15 years ago, honing the traditional tools while already experimenting with different mediums. When “digital” techniques emerged, it felt like the natural way to go. It is the interplay between these two creative modes of expression that fascinates me. I typically create drawings by hand that I then enhance in Photoshop; although at times I will work purely with vector drawn lines and textures I have captured through photography. I also teach mixed media art classes, and this gives me the opportunity to go back to working with physical art techniques. The mixed influences of European and North American style and design have given me a broad perspective on art in particular. My most recent work has both a vintage and fresh contemporary feel to it. I like to imagine my artwork and designs in a variety of contexts and from small surfaces to big panels. I often use re-purposed material as a foundation and introduce new life into it by superimposing different elements. I also love the practice of making art a part of daily life by applying it to functional objects such as cushions or tea towels, just as I always see the potential for transforming everyday items into a esthetic centerpieces… like a table runner morphing into a wall hanging. Exploring new ground. It’s what I love to do.
