Fashion – Brisbane

Reflecting back, a fond memory of growing up as a kid were the moments when Mum would bring home bags full of preloved clothing given to us by family friends. My sister and I would be beaming with excitement and as soon as the bags hit the dining room table it was on! We would spend the rest of the night digging through the pile of clothes, picking out our favourite items and then showcasing them to Mum. At the time I didn’t realise the significance these moments held in terms of how it shaped my thinking around self-expression and vintage clothing. Denim Haze is a collection of vintage and upcycled pieces, with a special interest in denim because that’s my 80’s & 90’s fashion weakness/preferences kicking in. My vision for Denim Haze is to be a niche go to space for people who have a love of 80’s and 90’s vintage fashion and/or might be in the market for that unique upcycled piece that just screams to them empowerment and good vibes. The values that are essentially the bare bones of Denim Haze align with my personal views around the freedom to self-express, ethical fashion and philanthropy. Taking the leap of self-fulfilment and starting what is still a very young business in the big wide world of fashion brings so many opportunities to learn and grow and I’m embracing all that comes my way and continue to look forward to meeting like-minded people who challenge and inspire me. As I mentioned earlier, paying it forward is something that's important to me and a key purpose behind the decision to start Denim Haze was to be able to build something that becomes sustainable so that the success can be shared back to support the community around me. As my first starting point, a portion of the proceeds from each purchase is donated to a not-for-profit organisation, Delta Society Therapy Dogs, which is close to my heart as I've previously volunteered my time there with my dog, Pippi. The volunteering opportunity meant that Pippi was able to visit the residents at one of our local aged care facilities each fortnight and its absolutely profound the impact she had on the people around her, she brightened their day in a way that words can’t describe, you just have to be there. For anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Delta Society, feel free to visit their website for more information: www.deltasociety.com.au "I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE EFFECT YOU HAVE ON OTHERS IS THE MOST VALUABLE CURRENCY THERE IS" - Jim Carrey I hope you enjoy my browsing collection!
