DEVIATED THEATRE

Performing Art – Baltimore

DEVIATED THEATRE Co-Creators, Enoch Chan and Kimmie Dobbs Chan write original fairytales for the digital age which come to life through a mix of acting, contemporary dance, and aerial dance. Their work is known for its haunting images drawn from a melting pot of world mythology, and has been dubbed the “Cure” for “Sugar Plum Fairy Fatigue” by the Washington Post (2011). DEVIATED THEATRE productions highlight the tension between fate and destiny, light and shadow, and also what is considered ugly or beautiful, inviting audiences to ponder humanity’s role as both creature and creator amidst the greater cosmos. DEVIATED THEATRE has been cited as “raising the standard for Maryland dance companies” by Baltimore City Paper (2008), featured on WETA’s “Around Town” (2010), commissioned work by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (2011), voted “Best Dance Company” by Washington City Paper (2012), and in 2013 was selected as audience favorite in NYC at Ellenore Scott’s Breaking Glass: the emerging female choreographer’s project.
