My inspiration to become a fashion designer came in 1999 when my mother and I were watching the Essence Awards and saw that the Designer of the Year award went two young urban designers. I realized my mother’s excitement and happiness for the young designers, so I decided to build on my artistic abilities and go to school for Fashion Design.
In 1999 I attended Brooks College, Long Beach, CA and earned an Associate of Arts in Fashion Design. After graduating from Brooks College in 2000, I decided to continue my education and was accepted into the Apparel Design program at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island. After studying in Rhode Island, I headed back to my hometown to pursue my career in fashion design.
I was Inspired by the void in the fashion industry and created the Alchemy Brand. With Alchemy plan to bridge the gap between Ready-to-Wear and Urban Wear by delivering trendy patterns and classic designs made with the finest quality. By taking current street fashion trends and adding our own touch on urban style, Alchemy will be a world wide lifestyle brand.
My plan is to change the industry by bringing the true meaning of fashion design back into the fashion industry. The talent we have behind the designs of Alchemy is more than just a marketable name or a hobby that someone has decided to take to the next level. Alchemy plans to take the industry under our wing and bring the true designers, designers that not only have the talent, but the knowledge as well, back to the fashion world.
I think here in America we are trendsetters, but we aren’t really respected for having top designers, and I want to change that. I have a plan and putting that plan in action is my inspiration.
So what can you expect from Alchemy Brand? Alchemy will bring the unique and raw talent back to the industry. With this bag collection, I will feature unique designs with an urban touch. I will bring fresh new trend setting styles with every new season. Alchemy will not follow any trends because it will be the beginning of trend setting.
