Doc Baker\'s Traveling Musicological Extravaganza

Music – Connecticut

LOOKFAR, the new record from Doc Baker\'s Traveling Musicological Extravaganza, is, in its very being, a journey. Composed of songs polished, if not completely written, on the road, it was recorded in August, September, and October of 2011 in New Haven CT, Fredonia NY, and Northfield MN. Singer/Songwriter Ben Michalak took to the road late in the summer with a notebook on the passenger seat, writing pages of material that were distilled into seven songs, many of which arrived, start to finish, from the pavement. Recording demos on a cell phone (some of which appear wholly or in fragments in the completed collection) and breaking out the studio equipment over longer stops, LOOKFAR not only speaks to the travel, but chronicles it literally as well. It is the fourth release on Michalak\'s own Canadaway Records label, proceeded by the now out-of-print LIKE BIRDS in 2008, a 2010 EP of the same name, and the track-by-track release LULLABIES FOR THE LONG NIGHT.
