Performing Art – Denver

Don B Wilson is a black, queer, American poet, visual and performance artist. His writing career began in the fourth grade, at age 8, competing in an essay contest writing about gum and tree sap. from that moment, he began writing small essays and journals. Don considers his life to be a constant spiritual awakening of himself. He battles this awakening through various forms of rhetoric – visual and interpretations. He took this love for words and imagery by studying English and Visual Arts at the University of South Carolina. He needed to find an outlet, a way to release his past out into the world. Trying to find freedom from depression, Don wanted everyone to know how he felt all at one time. Leading to the release of his debut poetry collection, sour weeds and polar trees, in 2017. Since then he has performed his poems around the University of Colorado, Denver and the city of Denver, CO. He believes poetry and performance are brothers and sisters. His poems paint the walls of paper as every illustration invites readers into his reality. From his upcoming collection: When Mountains Breathe, he explores themes of – love. spirituality. sexuality. relationships. religion. social-issues. lgbtq empowerment. and black empowerment. He has integrated various forms of arts alongside his poetry, such as: performance art, photography, and interpretive dance. follow his – instagram, facebook, and twitter for updates, future collections, and art exhibitions.
