Visual Art – San Francisco

My work engages with the experience of the urban world, layering references to architecture, written languages, urban geometries over imagery representing the spiritual, psychological, and physical perceptions of the human experience. By juxtaposing what is usually thought of as two groups of contradicting symbolism, my works seeks to develop a semiology that references the post-modern experience of urban living. The understanding of the urban experience has yet to be fully defined, allowing this work to engage in a dialogue yielding such definition. Through the deconstruction of bodies of symbolism, such as architectural diagrams and cultural calligraphic typography, symbol-groups lose their specialized meaning, and begin to hold a larger body of reference, in this case to the modern urban experience. Allowing such symbolism to become merely aesthetic elements among other stylistic visual phenomena, allows a greater picture of modern existence to begin to emerge.
