Visual Art – Chicago

Garrett Leo Augustyn is a Chicago born artist who received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with Emphasis in Art Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Having worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Studio Assistant, an Art Advisor, and currently as a Fine Arts Teacher, Garrett’s interests in public service and labor work have guided his artistic concepts. Coming from a family background consisting of various blue-collar professions, he currently uses this concept of labor work in his practice to provide a voice for laborers from the past to present day. Working with larger than life human figures, Garrett emphasizes the importance of respect for the lives of these laborers and the work they accomplished. As an educator, Garrett’s hopes for his students are for them to understand the power behind their voice and expressions through art.
