Heather Plewes

Heather Plewes is a self-taught abstract artist; born and raised in Calgary, Alberta where she resides today. Heather’s love for art began at a young age when she found that only through art could she allow her creative mind to explode onto paper. It wasn’t long before Heather began taking evening and weekend art classes to expand her skill set in drawing and painting. During the summer of 2007, Heather decided to pursue her passion for painting out of her one bedroom apartment. Since then Heather has found an art space which she now calls home. Being in her new creative space has enabled her to be more hands on; throwing paint and making a mess without the worry of damaging anything! Heather has experimented with many wonderful types of art mediums giving her a variety of skills she employs in her paintings. Heather has found her passion to be in abstract painting using acrylic paints with gel mediums. Painting is a therapeutic experience for Heather giving her the time to unwind and relax, allowing her release of raw energy splattering its way onto her canvas. When Heather goes into her art studio she leaves the world behind and is able to paint in an environment free of rules, boundaries and judgments. Heather applies her paint in a way that creates rich depth and texture leading the hands to touch what the eye sees.
