HlubTray

My name is Tracy Hang and my current collection name is "HlubTray." The name "HlubTray," was made up by incorporating a word that I often say in my native language (Hmong) and my nickname amongst close friends. The word "HLUB" means "LOVE." To pronounce it would be by saying it with a silent "H,"and the "B" wouldn't necessarily be pronounced, so it would sound as if you are saying "HLU" or "LU." Living in LA has open many doors to many trials and errors in life, and I find that it's important to remember where and how far you have come, therefore I try to keep a part who I really am in everything that I do. As far as my desire to be in fashion I find it as a way of being able to creatively express yourself by what you wear, being able to transform into any character that you wish to become. When I say transform I mean more than what appears on the outside, what you wear can affect your mood, attitude, and self confidence instantly. I love the thought of being able to help an individual see and feel confident in whom they are just by wearing a piece that I've designed. I like practical clothing and being able to design pieces that can be worn mixed in with other casual pieces but always with a twist. But then again I love concepts, themes, thinking outside the box, and the beauty of art that can be translated through fashion. So when it comes to designing contemporary pieces, I think of pieces that are in between, something out there, yet wearable. My inspiration comes from anywhere and anything such as pictures, people, and culture. But in my current collection for "HlubTray," I do find myself drawn to designing for woman whom are confident, sexy, and in depth with whom they are knowing that they can rock in any outfit. It's made up of pieces that I would describe as sexy, confident, dark, and daring. I have not advanced far within my own career of designing, but everything is in the works. I keep pushing and find motivation through my family and having faith that within time and patience, I can achieve anything that I set my mind to. I honestly believe that you only go as far as your willing to go and that life has opportunities that you have yet to discover, boundaries are only made when you make them.
