Art of Tesa Michaels

Visual Art – San Diego

My name is Tesa Michaels. Artistically I was gifted at a young age, I began to draw first rather than write. My mother passed on her artistic talent and inspiration to me and I haven’t stopped since. At the age of 12 I painted my first oil painting, and at age 17 I was accepted in my first national show. Art has always been apart of me, it is who I’m. I then went on to study at The Art Institute of Colorado. Starting in fine art and then after the program was then switched; I studied Graphic Design, where I hold my degree. I worked in the graphic design field for some time; in printing, as an Art Director for a health products company and in advertising at J. Walter Thompson as an Art Director, which are some of my graphic design highlights. I then discovered I moved to far from my roots as a Fine Artist. Picked up oils and found my nitch. As a fine artist I work primarily in oil, painting realistic landscapes and abstracts that bring in the elements of the earth. In my realistic landscapes I take a Tonealistic approach to my paintings. Meaning I push values, creating intense sense of light in my paintings. As an abstract artist I’m inspired by semi-precious stones which I incorporate into my paintings, I want to bring more emotion to each piece with their qualities, beauty, uniqueness and texture.
