Visual Art – Milwaukee

Growing up in a midwestern Christian household, the bedtime stories were of good versus evil, discovering meaning in the meaningless, the impossible made possible, and leaps of faith. The spiritual world has always been as real to me as the natural world. Inspired by the parables in the Bible, I attempt to explain spiritual themes of love, disconnection, and yearning. I enjoy experimenting with different materials and often combine the grittiness of charcoal with the fluidity of thinned out watercolors or oils to create a dreamlike atmosphere in which my characters exist. I embrace the tension between the unpredictable and sometimes uncontrollable nature of the paint with the refined structure of the charcoal as it echoes the tension often portrayed in my imagery. My style has been greatly influenced by illustrations, comics, graffiti and street art which melt beauty and stories together. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Wisconsin, Stout and have recently obtained my Master’s degree in Education from Concordia University. I love inspiring other by creating personal connections to and through art.
