Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

I AM a DC based freelance visual artist and textile desiner born in Newport News Va. My African infused work is inspired by my Father Artist Jerome Johnson, who’s body of work reflected both our heritage and the current condition of people affected by the African diaspora. My art reflects both my parent’s determination, to raise culturally aware children. This combined with the busy hustle of my diverse upbringing in Washington DC fuels my work as an artist. I AM a Wife and mother of five beautiful people. My Children inspire me to create. I have been blessed with an opportunity to create daily a body of work that reflects the world around them and our past, as my father did for me. Through Textile design and Visual art I hope to present our culture in a new way to them. I also hope my work and perspective resonates to a larger audience. I AM a published Illustrator, Muralist, Textile Designer and Visual Artist. My preferred mediums are pencil and paper, acrylic paint, and digital drawing. But am looking forward to learning and growing in new mediums. In the near future I see myself sinking deeper into the world of textile design. Creating a line of Fabrics including a children’s line, Giftwrap, wallpaper and home goods from a Black American perspective.
