Jasmine Tate

Music – Philadelphia

“Everyone has a voice, but few ever speak. Music is my microphone.”   Jasmine Tate is a singer/songwriter based in Philly with sounds reminiscent of Tracy Chapman and Lauryn Hill. She spent the last five years in Pittsburgh, where she graduated Robert Morris University and raised $20,000 for a project on Kickstarter in 2013. The album, titled Life and Love, debuted top 20 on iTunes singer/songwriter charts in spring of 2014. The following national tour took her to 10 cities between Philadelphia and LA, playing everywhere from bars and coffee shops to the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh. When asked what it felt like to play in front of 17,000 people, Jasmine said, “I was both excited and terrified. The thought of my words influencing so many people at once suddenly made them hold more weight.” That doesn’t mean she forgot her roots, however—Jasmine Tate is currently booking shows and loves the smaller venues, such as the coffee houses and bars in which she started. “I love performing in front of a handful of people. I love the opportunity to look people in their eyes. There’s something about the intimacy about releasing hope into someone’s life and being able to see it in their eyes.”
