Visual Art – Kansas City

I was always considered one of the “class artists” growing up, but when I was unable to make my pictures look exactly the way I had them in my head I gave up painting. If I couldn’t be another Rembrandt I wasn’t interested in even trying. Many, many years later, I jokingly told a friend I’d paint a picture for his new home. Thinking I was being funny, I went to the store and bought children’s finger-paint. Much to my surprise, the result was frame worthy and he loved his gift. That year, I gave paintings to my family and friends as gifts. With each painting I became more fascinated with how the colors interacted and the effects I could achieve. Then, life got busy and I set the paints aside again. Last fall, an old friend and I were emailing about oil painting again. When I closed her email I had a new email. It was from Michael Molick of Molick Gallery advertising oil painting classes. The Universe had spoken. I started the classes painting with a brush but I was intrigued with idea of painting with my fingers again. After a few conventional paintings, I took a deep breath and started painting primarily with my fingers. I use only the three primary colors and white when I paint, and I love watching new colors appear as I mix and blend. I am grateful life has come full circle and I have returned to my first love: painting.
