I love to paint and capture the "feel good" moments; those moments where figures are caught in the vibe of the music, posing, flirting or caught mid-smile. The things I come into contact with in current culture, music and fashion are combined with my loves for drawing the figure, pattern and light, but IT ALL STARTS WITH THE PHOTGRAPH(s) and how I identify with the persons in them at any given moment. I am somewhat of an image or source collector of photographs taken at parties and other social events. Some paintings are of one figure from one photograph, but a lot of them are culminations of several different photographs where I like to create my own atmosphere or narrative and the let the figures “talk” to one another. Although I am still developing my work, I feel as though my subject matter is also documenting my generation where mainstream culture plays a heavy part in how people interact with each other and the camera. I paint with oil on top of metallic acrylics using a subtractive fashion of painting, where I wipe away, etch into and press against the top layers of oil paint to layers underneath. What I love about the metallics are that lighting really plays a big part. Different lighting situations: dim lights, spot lights and day light bring different dimensions to the pieces and allow the viewers to interact with the pieces from different angles and distances.
