Visual Art – Providence
Joelle Cheri Plante is a self-taught artist best known for her vibrant and eclectic mixed media paintings. Working with a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint, ink, coffee, and found objects, her portraits depict mysterious characters traversing the dark side of what it means to be human. She was raised by stray cats just outside of Providence, Rhode Island, where she grew up climbing as many trees as possible. Her comic book influences can be found in her dynamic use of color and line. She now uses her painting practice as a means to engage her intuitive, wild nature and to explore inner truths.
