Performing Art – Chicago

Johanna Seidel is originally from Tecumseh, Michigan. She graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy with a degree in Dance in 2012, as part of the 50th Anniversary graduating class, having the opportunity to go on tour to New York City and across Michigan. She then moved to Texas to attend West Texas A&M University under the direction of her mentor, Leslie Williams. While in Texas, Johanna danced with Lone Star Ballet as a member of their Circle of Excellence Professional Company under the direction of Vicki McLean and was a featured dancer in their productions. Johanna also danced for “TEXAS: Musical Drama” as a featured soloist dancer in the summer of 2015. Johanna worked as the Ballet Mistress for the WTAMU Dance Academy, pursuing her passion of teaching ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary, and jazz for all four of her years in Texas. Upon graduation in May 2016 from WTAMU with high honors and a BFA in Dance, Johanna has been living, working, and performing professionally in Chicago. Johanna currently dances with Alluvion Dance Chicago and Esoteric Dance Project, both professional contemporary dance companies in Chicago. Through Alluvion, she had the opportunity to develop and present her choreography, making her Chicago choreographic debut with a contemporary piece in April 2017. She has also worked as a featured dancer on various film projects, including DaNiro Elle Brown’s “Soft,” and Joseph Roark’s “The Ballerina & The Swordsman.” Johanna is currently working on other collaborative projects with local Chicago artists, as well as continuing her training with various local professional companies. While in Chicago, Johanna has been teaching for studios such as the Chicago Dance Medium, the Laura Cote School of Dance, and Dancewerks.
