Music – Seattle

La Fonda is the brain child of sister songwriters Veronica and Valerie Topacio. The six piece entourage makes wakes everywhere they go, leaving hearts full and friendships formed. Their music explores love, longing and loss through harmoniously rich vocals and self-exposing lyrics. Reverberating, inventive guitars, driving bass lines and synths adorn the body of their work. The summer of 2015 found Veronica and Valerie writing songs and busking at Pike Place Market, after growing up in a musical family where singing in the living room was a regular affair. Magic blossomed when they connected with guitarist Jesse Cole, a friend from their past, whose guitar style mixed seamlessly with their harmonies. The Sisters then met bass player Bryan Dever who instantly recognized the importance of their friendship and talent. Shortly after, Bryan’s boyhood pal Patrick Hodge blessed the ensemble by joining on the pearly whites. As with many budding groups, the throne behind the drums saw several friends come and go. It wasn’t until after three years in that fate and proximity would lead them to Jacob Whinihan (Special Explosion) as their percussionist, joining the band in the spring of 2019 before launching on a month-long tour down the west coast to SxSW. Since the lineup met it’s completion, fires of inspiration and love have erupted among them, fueling their light on stage and in the studio. Having just completed their debut album due out in 2020, and cemented in comradery, La Fonda looks to their music as a compass to help guide themselves and their fans. It’s their hope that their story-telling surrounding the themes of love and friendship inspire their collective of listeners to fight through moments of compounding disarray, transition and struggle by showing up as our strongest, most authentic, and truest selves.
