Visual Art – Dallas - Fort Worth

Laney Espenlaub has one foot in Texas, and another in Georgia. She is a die-hard sports fan, and roots for the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves, and TCU. Given her exposure to sports torture, her motto has become: "Don't expect a win and you won't be disappointed.". In Fort Worth, she shares a home with her boyfriend Jon, and a new Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, Roscoe Dash. She has been studying art since Kindergarten... literally. Georgia State and Flagler both had strong impacts in both her studies, and her art -- Flagler teaching her confidence in her stroke, and Georgia State convincing her, finally, that oils were not her medium. While she occasionally dabbles with oil sticks, acrylics have become her weapon of choice. Laney's work consists of assertive brushwork and gestural line, which feels like an inner expression that most of us would like to put out there-- confident, and with feeling. Regardless of subject, her work is a visually pleasing balance of lighter values opposing intense hues. It is open, popping, and immediately engaging. The engaging quality is what has drawn so many to Laney for commissioned work. In some minds, however, her best works are typically her largest ones, where the freedom of that gestural stroke can chase itself across the canvas.
