The Leaning Handle Pottery

Craft – Vancouver

The Leaning Handle features the pottery of Vancouver-based ceramic artist, Maya. Starting as a side hobby during her PhD studies, Maya's pottery quickly took on a life of its own. Maya is passionate about pottery that is playful, functional, and sustainable. With bold colour combinations and functional design elements, The Leaning Handle mugs, bowls, and pots are eye-catching and comfortable to use. Because everything is made by hand in a small studio, pieces have charming imperfections and, no matter how hard she tries, Maya's handles always lean. When experimenting with shapes and glaze combinations, mistakes happen (and let's face it, they happen a lot). Maya transforms over-fired, crazed, and ugly duckling pots into candles with locally-sourced and organic beeswax. Labels are also upcycled from Maya's old school notebooks. Sometimes, Maya playfully includes her own PhD writing (or writing that didn't make the final cut) in her pottery. These nerdy pieces invite folks into Maya's learning journey without the burden of reading her dissertation. Pieces are priced fairly and with a student-budget in mind, so there's something for everyone. You can follow The Leaning Handle on instagram for more adventures in clay and grad school.
