Jake Mulliken

Film – Pittsburgh, PA

My name is Jacob O\'Brien Mulliken and I hail from the dark and bloody ground of Kentucky. I have a BA in Literature and a Masters in Education, focus on Curriculum and Instruction. Film and Teaching have remained my major passions in life. Before making my exodus to Pittsburgh, I spearheaded a performing arts department at a private high school in Oakland, California that consisted of Film and Drama and focused on utilizing the innate skills presented in the performing and visual arts to aid students with disabilities in achieving their social, emotional and academic goals. After having been swept up in the mass California teacher layoffs, I made my way to Pittsburgh to insert myself in the cities burgeoning Renaissance. With a group of talented Pittsburghers, I began my independent company, Out of Pocket Productions, and began simply making films. At the end of September we wrapped our first film, a half hour Zombie Comedy entitled Meltdown. With a meager $1,200 budget we divided and, in my eyes, conquered. My most current project, a documentary focusing on the life and times of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, began production in October and will wrap in early May. We are also in development on the feature length version of Meltdown, which we hope to adapt into an ongoing web-series. Examples of my work with my students, work they created in class, as well as my personal work are in the links below as well as the video links. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2891774/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 http://blog.sfgate.com/lshumaker/2011/05/03/bayhill-school-film-festival-not-to-be-missed/ http://www.ibabuzz.com/education/2011/05/11/next-week-at-the-grand-lake-an-acquired-taste-film-festival/ http://www.examiner.com/article/student-film-makers-seek-to-expand-awareness-of-learning-disabilities ...more
