Michael Alan Hams

Music – New York - Brooklyn

Michael Alan Hams was born in central Minnesota, where from a young age he began his musical studies. After years of playing the piano, violin, and the double-bass, it was percussion that eventually ensnared his devotion. After high school, Michael attended Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA, where he received his Bachelor's of Music in 2006 (jazz performance-drums). It was here that he first began his serious initiation into song craft, both lyrically and musically. Cornish's professors (including Julian Priester, Hadley Caliman, Jovino Santos-Neto, and Matthew Kocmieroski) played a pivotal role in this, and many other aspects of his development. Having spent six years in the Pacific Northwest, Michael decided to move to San Diego, CA in the fall of 2008. There, he joined his brother for an eight year partnership in writing, performing, recording, and touring that would take them all over the US and Mexico. September of 2016 brought Michael to Brooklyn, where he released his first solo album (Knockout Bell), and has performed both as a freelance drummer and as a solo artist. He is currently working on his next album, and hopes to release it in the fall of 2017.
