Mountain Lyon Leather

Fashion – Denver

I am from the mountains of Southwest Colorado and am inspired by the natural world, primitive skills and functional art. My background is primarily in painting/drawing and I have a degree in Studio Arts and Psychology from the University of Colorado. After graduation in 2012, I worked as a wilderness therapy guide in the Utah wilderness and discovered primitive skills, wood work and the wonders of leather as an art material. I have since taken a break from 2-D art and have dove, head first, into 3-D art, with an emphasis in leather work and jewelry making. I have always made art with what was around me and I seek to re-use materials as much as possible. My jewelry making began when I had many leather scraps, bullet shells, and an array of broken jewelry pieces, so I decided to recreate them into wearable art. My studio practice has become a side endeavor but I like to incorporate it into my life as much as time will allow. In April, I will be merging my passions for art and people as I begin my graduate studies in Art Therapy at Antioch University in Seattle.
