Miles Schon

Music – San Jose

Miles Schon is a talented musician and songwriter who hails from a rich background in rock-n-roll. He is very modest about his background, playing down the fact that his father is one of the great American guitarists (Neal Schon, one of the founding members of the legendary rock band Journey), still he is rooted and grounded in the music his father turned him on to. Citing Jeff Beck as his all time favorite, he grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Santana and Eric Clapton. He describes his sound as “progressive hard rock with blues and pop/R&b mixed into one…” and when questioned about his comparisons to his father, he replies, “I’ve heard [the comparisons] my whole life. I just pay attention to what I sound like and what I try to do.”…” I’m working on my own style”. Miles played sports most of his life, but a knee injury sidelined him during his stint as a football player at Novato High School in California. Though he had started learning to play when he was 13, after the knee injury, he really started to get into guitar. He is self taught and accomplished in his own right, teaching music to local middle school kids while writing and recording songs for his EP “Wild Ride” with friend and collegue Will Champlin. He performs to packed houses around the Bay Area several times a week. Given that his father was already a famous guitar player, he often thought he should do something else, “I still have thoughts about that,” he has said. “At the same time, you have to do what makes you happy. And that makes me happy.”
