Neisha

Fashion – Melbourne

Hailing from New Zealand, Melbourne based designer Neisha’s foray into fashion began at the early age of 5, hand-stitching clothes for her Barbie dolls under the watchful eye of Grandma Smith. By the time she was twelve she had saved up enough pocket money to buy a sewing machine. The rest is history. There is a distinctive signature that underpins all of Neisha’s designs, from the vibrant batiks and hand dying to the intricate finishing. In the movement of her figure-celebrating cuts a raw, feminine, sexiness emerges. Fabrics are her original lover, while the diverse beauty of women around her have her inspired to create vibrant garments that accentuate feminine beauty season after season. Ethics and sustainability are the forefront of the design process. She works extensively with a community of batik artists in Gambia, West Africa; employs cutting techniques that result in little to no fabric waste; and uses organic fabrics or non-season stock to create her collections.
