Rachel Kerwin

I have always been interested in the way humans look to nature in order to understand the realities around them. Nature provides a rich resource, because we tend to draw what we consider our “absolute truths” from the natural world. Yet, there are many contradictions encompassed in the way plants, animals, and humans coexist. Birds are particularly poignant to me because of their ability to embody both the elegance and chaos of flight - a continuum that could represent the whole range of human emotions. My art allows me to explore those emotions and how we can connect to them on a personal level. I\'m originally from Chicago, now living in DC, with quite a bit of hopping around in between. Stops along the way have given me a great interest in culture, nature, and the way we carve out who we are in the world.
