Roya So Artsy

Visual Art – Seattle

Seattle-based fashion illustrator Roya Ansari is well known for her colorful portraits of women in the fashion world. She loves painting gigantic doll eyes with big lashes on all of her portraits, rooted in her firm beliefs that eyes are the most important part of expressing emotions and that they are a window to the soul. Despite being inspired by the looks that are created for models during fashion week, or in magazine spreads, she is still drawn to painting from the shoulders, up. "There's something really amazing in taking these faceless models from the runway and envisioning/creating them into real women with feelings in my artwork." Roya's work has been recognized by David Yurman, Brian Atwood, Josie Maran, Nordstrom, the Cobra Snake, Wildfox Couture, Kimberly Gordon, Frank Body, Jolie Gazzette, Into the Gloss, Vanity & Trade, etc. Roya takes great pride in her portraits, and often finds it difficult to part with them. "When I finish each woman, I feel like she's my new sister; a new character I've created that can't be duplicated. They all have different personalities and styles and feelings and interests. I'm like one of those obsessive doll collectors, I love them all over my walls, surrounding me. They give off a comforting presence".
