Saffron Soul Tapestries

Visual Art – Austin

Hi! My name is Meesha Farzaneh and I am a self taught fiber artist based out of Austin, TX. I was faced with the misfortune of undergoing 2, very invasive, foot surgeries starting in 2017, and was forced to stay home and limit myself to activities that involved minimal mobility. I started playing around with macramé, and really started to get into the intricacies of all the different knots and patterns you can create. From there, I began learning how to weave on a loom, which was absolutely all I wanted to do 24/7! I then began experimenting with punch needle embroidery, and successfully created my first piece which is now, Fiber Frida! I was born and bred in Texas, but my ethnic background is Persian. The name Saffron Soul circles back to my Iranian roots, where 90% of the Saffron used today is derived from. By the 10th century BC, ancient Persians were weaving saffron threads into textiles, and would ritually offer them to divinities. My artistic intentions are to give that empty, lifeless wall a soul of its own!
