Fashion – San Francisco

I was taught to use a sewing machine at a young age by my beloved departed mother, Ann, a 4-H leader and prolific quilter. Now a wayward artist residing in Oakland, Ca, I have spent the last few years honing those skills passed down from her as a means of curbing a shopping addiction. (Immersion in Bay area underground music culture is a breeding ground for fashion as artistic expression.) It began with simply taking some scissors to clothes I didn\'t wear anymore, and has evolved to much more complex techniques of drafting, designing, and couture. Most of it I have taught myself, but mom\'s teachings gave me the basics, as well as other things she probably never expected-for example, the same technique she taught me for binding a quilt can also be used to bind a corset! That might well have made her blush, but nonetheless its one of the things I love about sewing-feeling close to her spirit and her legacy.
