Visual Art – Los Angeles
Selena Fara has had no formal training. Painting is her freedom. She feels deep gratitude to have found her path as an artist and to have been awarded Los Angeles RAW artist of the year in 2011. Her body of work is strongly influenced by her subconscious. Intrigued by the notion: while one is asleep in this world, one is awake in another; she combines these two worlds unassumingly. She has said, “It’s the details of things and people that inspire me. I love impasto! Expressing layers and texture through art, as in life, is my favorite part of this human experience. Every blank canvas is a new hope. To connect universally and stir up something inside others, that is my dream.” Playing with both acrylic and oil paints, she channels sexuality by way of the female figure. Portraying each woman she paints as a different character, with her own story. Her creations are best described as raw, whimsical and often lean toward macabre. Recently relocating from Brooklyn, NY, she currently resides in Austin, TX.
