Visual Art – Philadelphia
My name is Halima Saadia, I'm 33 and Im from Philadelphia. Growing up, I had to endure many things that a child should never face and I found peace/ "serenity" within art, which is what I bring to the industry. As a Hijabi, society tries to silence us and force us into a bubble in which our voices or ideas aren't heard. With my work, I was able to create different fantasies or tell my story without ever having to open my lips. Every technique that I know was self taught and studied by watching other artists work. Actually by graduating from Tuskegee University, I was able to meet so many individuals within the Architecture department and learn the basic fundamentals of shapes, shading, dimensions, etc., without having to pay a dime. I was able to create a brand called 'Serene Stylez' which showcases different ranges of art from makeup to canvas to bodypaint. My favorite quote that describes me is, "I am an artist, you choose my canvas", which means, no matter what is thrown my way, I am able to create it into an art piece. To be able to experience a client's initial reaction after a session is the most gratifying feeling and I knew this was my calling.
