Visual Art – Vancouver

Soda Leavey is an interdisciplinary Artist based on the Canadian West Coast. She studied under Jane Romanishko in her youth, attended Red Deer College (2008-2011) and the University of British Columbia (2012-2015) to attain a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts. Her work is comprised of explorations of the relationship between the organic and the mechanical. Evidence of the process and truth of materiality are emphasized through her use of creative deconstruction. By means of juxtaposing various multimedia, the transformative quality of destruction is revealed. Anxieties associated with technology, dehumanization and the future manifest in her gestures and the break down of the picture plane. She visually explores boundaries; that of humans and machines, and humans and other life, in order to breach them and challenge the viewers’ unconscious distinctions.
