Visual Art – New York - Brooklyn

When people find out I'm from Alaska I get a lot of different responses, my favorite being "do you have pet polar bears?" and my least favorite being "can you see Russia from your house lol?" I never realized the fairy tale aspect to my home until I went to school at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. That's when I realized I've had some unique experiences. I remember the 2 week power outage after a snow storm buried our cars, the night I apexed a mountain at midnight with the sun still shining, flew in a bush plane to get to school, and the moose encounters that range from hilarious to terrifying. My surroundings have a huge impact on my state of mind, and wonder if growing up in one of the most beautiful places in the world influenced my desire to make art. Leaving Alaska has definitely made me appreciate it more, and living in Brooklyn has supplied me with an entirely different set of experiences. I've been lucky enough to travel to very diverse countries, and truly see myself living abroad long-term in the future...but where that'll be, who knows!
