WThere is no way to describe Tonya Boyd-Cannon without using the word phenomenal. With her versatile styles of music, this \"MISSISSIPSOUISIANIAN (born in Mississippi/raised in Louisiana)\" singer possesses a voice of skilled-vocal abilities that displays emotional depth. With a lifetime of musical influences, she began her professional career with Jean Knight (1999); where she performed as a background vocalist. Tonya was inspired with the first project; that she went on to record her first single PRECIOUS (1999), which she dedicated to her late grandmother. After suffering a total loss from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Tonya released the Rise My Child album in 2006. She dedicated this album to all survivors of the storm and life. The video titled “Rise My Child” was recorded in her neighborhood (Lower 9th Ward) and produced by the NOVAC film company.
Throughout her career, Tonya has learned that her elements of sound, techniques, skills and passion produced “MUZIC.” This new form allows her to embody the whole song and to tell the story through the melody. Tonya has worked with numerous recording artists and hopes to work with many more. Over the years, Tonya’s muzic has elevated through genres of jazz/R&B/funk/gospel and soul. In 2010, she joined with a group of musicians and vocalist to produce the renowned \"SoDivine\" band. Tonya and this awesome band have thrilled audiences across the nation with their original sound, tremendous harmonies and high-energy shows.
