Beauty – Seattle

I'm a makeup artist and creative in the Pacific Northwest. I love classic beauty, but my heart lies with the strange stuff. Rainbows, glitter tears, organic shapes and lines, special effects blood, etc...that gets me out of bed in the morning. I grew up drowning in colored pencils. My great grandfather was a painter interned in World War II, (he has a gallery here in Seattle. I'm so humbled by it.) and I think my family wanted to preserve the creative gene he seemed to have blessed me with. Flash forward to high school, and I was a timid rainbow haired kid, new to Las Vegas, with no certainty of where I belonged. I discovered the theatre and ended up living there. I was put in charge of nearly anything that needed a careful hand and a creative eye, and I loved every second of it. I drew posters, painted sets, and, inevitably, applied makeup to the more intricate characters. When I later moved on to filmmaking, I was still the key artist, even while doing the strenuous job of directing and producing. I couldn't give it up. Here I am now, making a living painting skin. I love that my canvases can speak to me, and I like knowing that, like the work of Andy Goldsworthy, my work will eventually be washed away, and I can play with the same canvas again and again in a new, refreshing way. I'm always ready to touch faces!
