Music – Austin

West Texas Mammoths are an American rock group. With stylings most similar to The Black Keys and Cage the Elephant, the group boasts a unique flavor of blues inspired rock and roll with a southern twist. Formed in February of 2015, the band consists of David Kapsner (vocals, guitar, keys), Michael Jekot (lead guitar, backing vocals), Tyler Rush (bass, backing vocals), and Joseph Noga (drums, backing vocals). The foundation of the band started in Austin - where Kapsner, Jekot, and Rush grew up playing music together. Kapsner met Noga at The Goat, a hole-in-the-wall blues bar in East Dallas, early 2015. A few weeks later, the West Texas Mammoths met in Austin to brainstorm a few songs. After this initial jam, it was obvious they were on to something. The group has deep roots in the blues along with other influences, which include: Drive-by-Truckers, The Allman Brothers Band, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The first EP (The Mammoth) was released in October 2015. West Texas Mammoths put on a raucous and memorable live show that you won't want to miss.
