Photography – Austin

My images are a result of always seeking a common language. My mother is a deaf, Chinese immigrant, to whom American Sign Language is a third language and English is a fourth. My father is a hearing, American to whom ASL is a second language, acquired as an adult. I grew up signing a hybrid of languages and was an interpreter to everyone. My photography is my way of communicating with the world, regardless of linguistics. My work is an ongoing dialogue. With myself and the people, places and things around me. I am from Maryland and hold a BFA in photography from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. I used film exclusively until 2008 when I introduced digital into my work and thoroughly enjoy both mediums. I\'ve had the pleasure of working with some of the worlds leading commercial and editorial photographers in New York City and abroad and that experience has taken me into some of the most beautiful venues and allowed me to meet some of the worlds most interesting people. In my own work, I am interested in documenting people in their environments. Because of my personal experience with language and cultural barriers, I am fascinated by the how, where and why of the lives people lead. In recent years this has translated into privately commissioned portraits of families and individuals documenting personal growth thru milestones big and small, but all significant. It is an honor to do what I do. View my website at www.whatwouldyendo.com
